EDUCATION AND SOCIAL SERVICES COMMITTEE

HAIL TO THE CHIEF!!

CONGRATULATIONS AND BIG SHOUT OUTS to our "Commander for a Day" Contest Winner, Deyvion McIntosh. Deyvion, 18, and president of the Youth Association of Lafayette Gardens wrote a great essay addressing how he would deal with youth violence and crime in the community if he were selected the Commander of our police department.

After writing a great essay, he was chosen the winner and received an award from the Police Commissioner Ray Kelly in a ceremony at Police Headquarters, followed by a special luncheon and tour of PSA 3. Congratulations to Deyvion and his family for a job well done!

Bravery and honor must run in his family because later in the same day his younger cousin Dahmiir Thomas helped save the life of an elderly neighbor. While taking the trash out, he heard faint screams for help. He listened carefully and then called the police who discovered his elderly neighbor had fallen in her tub and had been trapped there for more than 8 hours in the water. If it had not been for the heroic acts of Dahmiir the outcome would have been worse.

Congratulations are in order for two fine young men in our community!
