EDUCATION AND SOCIAL SERVICES COMMITTEE

emsweek

This week is National EMERGENCY MEDICAL SERVICES week and the youth of Lafayette Gardens and PS 270 had the opportunity to visit EMS Battalion House 44 on Rockaway Avenue and Bergen in Crown Heights.

Paramedic Captain Weiss and EMT "Spice" Spicer along with their fine team welcomed us for a very fun and informative day at the station house. We had the opportunity to climb into an Ambulance, insiders call them buses, and experience it's features first hand. We practiced various rescue techniques, used special equipment and viewed defibrillator and resuscitation machines.

The team was very professional and really knew how to relate to young people! They also prepared a great picnic lunch with all the fix'ins.

A very nice and welcome surprise was their presentation of a generous donation to our Youth Association Fishing Club! The donation was one of the most generous gifts to date and it will help many of our older teens get the required fishing licenses.
