CITY-WIDE COUNCIL OF PRESIDENTS
I am proud of the job that we did in Washington DC!!! At the National Low Income Housing Coalition Conference!
We the Public Housing resident leaders of The 9 districts of the City of New York, did an excellent job of meeting with most of the NYC congressional delegation on Wednesday, March 30th on capitol hill in Washington DC. All of us played a vital role as a team and we left an excellent impression with the members of the NYC Delegation.
First, My hat goes off to the leadership and work done by Herma Williams and the Bronx North executive board, for your work done on Monday and Tuesday, with the NLIHC staff to prepare the documentation and the data packs for our appointments.
Second, We were a little shaky in the beginning however all of the delegation received letters and and visits from the resident leaders. Michael Steele you did a great job representing Manhattan South, Ann Cotton Morris and the Queens group did excellent work, Brenda Kiko Charles, and the Staten Island group held it down, Ms Nimmons and Mr. Stanback did a tremendous job on several levels, thanks to Mr. Prince, from Brooklyn East for Video Taping, and the rest of the Brooklyn east crew for getting to Representative Ed Towns. Manhattan North got the word to Representative Rangel, and Bronx South was in the house! All 9 districts, did their part to make the presence of the residents felt on the "Hill."
Third, Let's keep the record clear. Many of the people on the trip were at this for the first time. But I am here to tell you that we left a professional impression with all of the elected officials and their staffs in the way that we handled our business under the circumstances in the climate of the hill that we were in. In the political storm that we were in on Wednesday, we stood solid as a rock and left a lasting impression of us as resident leaders determined to speak for ourselves and get what we need for the residents that we all represent.
Final word: The work has just begun. It is time to follow up this month and next month and from now on to make sure that we get what we want for public housing from the US Senate and Congress!
WE MUST ALSO FOLLOW UP WITH A PRESS CONFERENCE ON THE STEPS OF CITY HALL AND A FOLLOW UP TRIP TO DC TO FINISH WHAT WE STARTED!
Yes we have a working group. We will be meeting. We just must stay focused and remember that we are all under the same banner working together united to get all of the full funding and policy done in our favor, from now on.
Feel free to share this with YOUR NETWORK!
