"THE CALL TO WASHINGTON, D.C., OUR NATIONS CAPITOL"

As our students and families celebrate one of the most successful Graduation Years in history for the Lafayette Gardens Development and Community, our youngest students have been called to Washington, D.C.. The call came compliments of LG Alumni, Nancy Ramos and Congressman Ed Towns.
Edolphus "Ed" Towns is currently serving his twelfth term in the U.S House of Representatives. He represents the tenth Congressional District of Brooklyn, New York, encompassing the neighborhoods of East New York, Canarsie, Brownsville, Bedford-Stuyvesant, Cypress Hills, Clinton Hill, Mill Basin, Midwood, downtown Brooklyn, Boreum Hill, as well as parts of Fort Greene and Williamsburg.

Representative Towns is a member of the exclusive Energy and Commerce Committee where he is on the Commerce, Trade, and Consumer Protection Subcommittee, the Health Subcommittee, and the Telecommunications and the Internet Subcommittee. Through his committee appointments, Rep. Towns has worked to enhance consumers' privacy protections on the Internet, develop innovative initiatives to reduce asthma, and bridge the digital divide. He also serves on the Government Reform Committee's Subcommittee On Government Efficiency and Financial Management where he is the Ranking Member.

Nancy Ramos, an alumni of Lafayette Gardens, with a budding valedictorian herself this year grew up in building 325 where she continues to have family. Nancy has never refused our calls or needs for help. As a Senior Assistant to the Congressman, she fights tirelessly for our share of the pie. Her relentless dedication to LG and it's residents ensues the Congressman as LG at the top of his list when giving and that is how our children received the exclusive call.

Assisted by Colin Murray and Brian Denman of NYCHA City-wide Community Operations, for many of our stars this will be their first trip out New York State. 45 of our "Young Achievers," and 20 girl scouts will depart very early Saturday morning, accompanied by 10 Teen chaperons, members of the Handsome Money Makers (HMM) for their meeting at the "Nation's Capitol". They will visit the Capitol, White House and National Air & Space Museum.

Everyone, students, chaperone's and drivers will enjoy an All You Can Eat Dinner Buffet in Maryland on the journey back to Brooklyn.

Our appreciation and compliments to everyone who helped make this trip a reality and big shout outs for the accomplishments of Nancy, Congressman Towns and the Youth Association of Lafayette Gardens!
