The Casey Family Scholars Program will be accepting applications through the Orphan Foundation (www.orphan.org) until March 31st for undergraduate and graduate school support to students who were in foster care. They expect to fund up to 75 new undergraduate awards and up to 10 graduate school awards for the 2010-11 academic year. They especially encourage applications from students of color.

Youth Speakers' Bureau
ACS is currently seeking foster care youth and alumni (ages 16-25) for the Foster Care Youth Speakers' Bureau. Youth will address a variety of public figures to recruit foster parents and emphasize the need for strong foster families through media appearances, recruitment events, and community forums.
If you are interested in public speaking, sharing your story, are comfortable speaking in front of small and large groups and would enjoy being interviewed on television or radio, this could be a great opportunity for you! Children's Services will help to coordinate your schedule along with providing training, transportation, and a small stipend to assist you in benefiting most from this experience. This project is made possible by the generous support of New Yorkers for Children.

Learn about education opportunities (college and GED), employment and job training opportunities, support, life skills, housing and how to obtain identification (drivers license and non-drivers ID). Come see what Teen Day can do for you. Come to Queens Family Court (151-20 Jamaica Avenue, 4th floor, Jamaica, New York) on April 14, 2010 at 3:00 pm. You will get a chance to meet with people from many organizations and start planning your future. Food will be served and free informational bags will be provided.

Peer Educator-- Paid Positions for Teens
Teens PACT, of the Community Healthcare Network, is seeking youth for its sexual health peer educators program. Responsibilities leading workshops, planning an annual youth conference, creating social marketing tools, conducting street outreach and more-all to help teens make healthy, informed choiced about reproductive health.
If selected, peer educators will receive approximately 200 hours of paid training in sexual health throughout the summer. Upon completion, they will be required to work after school delivering positive messages to their peers.

The Hopes for Higher Education Scholarship is awarded to youth in foster care and alumni (age 18-25) for college or certification programs. Scholarships range in amount from $500 to $1,000. The application requires an essay and two letters of recommendation. Note: If you nominated a teen for Represent's Awards for Youth in Foster Care, that teen has already written an essay and gotten a letter of recommendation. He or she is more than halfway there to completing the Hope Scholarship!

ReNEW is a FREE 6 week pre-apprenticeship training program for women interested in gaining hands-on experience and an understanding of the building and construction trades in New York City, focusing on green collar careers. ReNEW's curriculum includes an industry overview, job readiness, trades math, hands-on shop classes, and employer and tradeswoman presentations. ReNEW features training in energy efficiency, home weatherization, photovoltaic basics and environmental literacy. Classes run Monday to Friday, from 8am to 4pm. To apply, you must be a woman 18 years or older, have a high school diploma or GED, be willing and able to perform 8 hours physical work each day and be interested in working in a nontraditional industry for a green future. LGBTQ youth are invited to attend Circle Of Youth (COY), a support group for LGBTQ youth between the ages of 15 to 21. The group provides a comfortable environment in which foster, adoptive and kinship young adults/adolescents can come together to learn their rights, express their feelings, set a positive example and help each other achieve their goals.
