MAINTENANCE AND MODERNIZATION COMMITTEE

NEXT STEP, "START WALKING"

This is a harsh reality check for residents who themselves or allow their children to vandalize the elevators. The elevators "ARE NOT TOYS". They are a vital, critical and important tool of life in the development for those of us who live above the lower floors, particularly on the 15Th - 21st floors.

During the past year, we have had a number of issues with elevator service and maintenance. An elevator technician was attacked in Building 470, someone was caught defecating in the elevator in 456 and the worse building of all 433 has repeatedly and intentionally broken pieces, poured water and sheet rock into the elevator shafts.

Elevator wiring was destroyed by sheet rock thrown into elevator shaft
Service was stopped by unsafe conditions created in the elevator shafts in building 433 during the holidays. Who wants to walk up16 flights of stairs on New Years?

Elevators are a necessary tool and extremely expensive tool for the quality of life within the development. If you don't appreciate or need the elevator, consider your young children, seniors and deliveries that require use of the elevators. STOP vandalizing such an important need. at some point even NYCHA will slow down on constantly repairing the same elevators in the same locations continually.

Elevated buildings on the open market are very expensive and perhaps 25% of our current residents and their families need to be evicted to see how difficult life is on the open market. There are thousands of people & families who would truly appreciate the opportunity to live where utilities are included, in a high rise building in such a prime location for mere pennies. They are currently paying $1500.00 per month PLUS utilities in a far worse neighborhood than Clinton Hills.

In conclusion, appreciate the blessing and value you have in public housing because for many of us, we would not be able to survive on the open market in decent housing!
