SPRING SEMESTER BLOSSOMS

Now is the time to plant the seeds of your future because the Spring Semester of our resident University is blossoming!

The Resident University is a collection of FREE classes, seminars and workshops designed to inform educate and provide residents and community members with quality access to services and assistance in a free and engaging environment, our community!

Spring 2011 will be our largest and best courses to date. Early registration is recommended as class and workshops fill up quickly!

This Spring we are offering:
  • Medicare.gov – the Official U.S. Government Site for Medicare MEDICAID & MEDICARE up front and in your face! This seminar is designed for persons already receiving one or both of these programs. The panel consisting of Private and Public experts will address the future of the programs; how to ensure you are making the most of the programs; the variations and combinations of the programs and your specific questions an concerns.
  • Social Security - The Official Website of the U.S. Social Security Administration SOCIAL SECURITY AND SOCIAL SECURITY DISABILITY! This seminar is designed for persons already receiving one or both of these programs. The panel consisting of Private and Public experts will address the future of the programs; how to ensure you are making the most of the programs; the variations and combinations of the programs and your specific questions an concerns.
  • YOUNG PEOPLE, THE COMMUNITY AND THE POLICE! This award winning workshop "flips the script" and allows our youth to walk in the shoes of our police in community based situations as the police assume the roles of the youth they encounter in our communities. This workshop is graciously provided by our PSA, The Police Academy and Community Affairs! participation is open to Youth Residents and Community members ages 8 10 19.
  • WHATS REALLY GOING ON? This town hall puts you up close and personal with the Public & Government Officials you elected. They will take your questions and comment on current and emerging topics of concern that you identify. This will be a panel of the legislators themselves, not representatives or stand ins but the PERSONS we elected and voted for. This workshop will fill extremely quickly, it is suggested you register early.
  • PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT AND EDUCATION CLASSES:
  1. Basic Reading, Writing & Math for everyday life; This class addresses issues such as completing applications and government forms; completing online forms and applications; adjusting 7 reading statements; balancing your checkbooks and payments.
  2. Basic and Advanced Computer Education; Classes in the very basic and simple computer operations to the advanced and technical aspects. Classes are taught by award winning community based Digital Technology Specialists "Igotittoo" and sponsored by GOOGLE!
  3. Networking and Creating Success! A workshop designed specifically for entrepreneurs and people determined to succeed. the workshop will be facilitated by the acclaimed "Networking Expert" herself, Arlene McLaren.
  4. Family CPR and Infant - Child CPR Classes! Join us for a day or evening of life saving and family preserving skills taught by the NYC Fire Department. Classes are simple, easy to understand and hands on in the comfort of our community. Each participant will be provided with a FREE CPR kit to take home and share the knowledge with their families and neighbors.
  5. The Sony Wonder Technology Lab! The Sony Wonder Technology Lab (SWTL) is a FREE four-story, interactive technology and entertainment experience for all ages. Located in mid-town Manhattan, SWTL inspires creativity in a high-quality, engaging and family friendly learning environment. This trip is FREE and open to everyone interested in the marvel that is modern technology from Radio & Television to computerized Homes of the future, this it the experience for you.
  6. NYCHA with a twist! check out New York City Housing direct as representatives from all the major departments will be on hand to answer questions, offer information and enroll you and your family in crucial and necessary services and referrals.
